Islay Distilleries, May 2015

Photographs from tours at 2 distilleries on Islay, Laphroaig and Bruichladdich. The differences between the two are interesting. Laphroaig is one of the few distilleries that still does a significant proportion (in this case, 20%) of its own malting. Otherwise, it's a medium-scale, somewhat automated operation, using some modern technology. Bruichladdich is rather smaller, does not make its own malt, but focuses on keeping everything else local - Islay barley through to bottling at the distillery.
